Sweetheart,

We've gone to an early lunch, so I've a moment to write. How are you this morning?

I say, it's bally well ironic that crisis is the only time we're able to see each other alone.

I can't think what the Longbottoms must be feeling, nor what to say. Nor can you, I imagine.

No one seems to be blaming you, at least--not that one can see, anyway. I confess I was worried someone might take the wrong end of the stick, what. Particularly when the first reports came in. But it seems they understand how difficult it was for you.

I'm doing my level best to have a 'Happy' Christmas in front of the lads here. Have you--I mean to say, did you happen to hear whether the news will come out soon? It would be a relief to be able to drop the façade and show proper sorrow for Neville.

But until then, I shall go on as normal, as Mr Lupin wisely instructed. Just know my thoughts are with you, love. Come back to Spense again tonight, if you can. I'll do the same. The Weasleys will understand.

Your,

-Justin

Hullo,

Just a quick update: Mr Longbottom's alive. He's trapped but they've been able to talk to him through the rock and dirt and all. I'm not sure whether the cave-in managed to create a pocket, what, or if there was something else at work. Sorry, I'm afraid haven't many details at present, just that he's still stuck and they're working on getting him out.

He's got a little girl with him, as well.

I've got to get back inside the null zone. About half the buildings collapsed and we've been clearing it away all evening. There was an aftershock about two hours ago that caused a bit more damage and injuries, including some of the rescue crews. I say, we're all rather tired but there's still loads to do.

But Mrs Longbottom wanted everyone to know as soon as possible. She's there with the digging crew, what, and Sirius is as well.

Hallo,

Look, I don't wish to seem insensitive, as I'm sure Mr Longbottom feels well shocked to suddenly lose his magic.

But, I say. The looks on your faces as we were reading that.... Well, I mean to say. It's not that terrible, is it?

He's alive, he's otherwise in good health, it sounds, and...well, millions--make that billions--of Muggles live without magic every day. They never even miss it.

Is there something I'm missing? Why does everyone seem to think it means his usefulness is at an end?

I'm quite earnest, I should add. I can tell you all think it's a dashed catastrophe but I'm at a loss as to just why.

-Justin

P.S. Do you think Harry and Hermione will finish with Cedric soon?
